Basic Dental care

Dental care is as important as body health. Just as the body organs face different problems, so is your teeth. There are so many diseases associated with the buccal cavity. More than 80% will be connected with teeth & gums. You have to brush your teeth daily twice. If there is any problem even accumulation of plaque, you should not make any delay in consulting the dentist.

Why Dental Insurance?

If you are a frequent visitor to the dentist, it is advisable to buy dental insurance. If you visit maybe once in a year, it may not become necessary for you to buy dental insurance. But if major problems like extraction, root canal, crown replacement etc occur frequently than expected, the expenses may rise above your budget. Thus it is safer to opt for a dental insurance.

When you decide to buy insurance, don’t fall in the trap of middlemen. You should always contact the suitable insurance provider for applying dental insurance.
You can get cheap dental treatment in a government hospital, but the treatment will be half-baked. So in a well furnished office with sophisticated interiors you can ensure professional treatment. Thus it is advisable to go for a dental insurance.

Loop holes in Dental Insurance

No full coverage: – This is because certain insurance providers do not cover cosmetic treatments like tooth whitening, Dental implants, fixing dentures etc. Certain orthodontic procedures are also ignored. So you should ensure about the various treatments covered.

Choice of dentist: – You should not accept the predefined panel of dentists prepared by the insurance provider. You should be able to seek treatment under the dentist of your choice.

Pre-existing conditions: When you buy the insurance, you may not be eligible for the coverage of whatever disease you might have concerning with teeth & gums. You may have to wait for maybe 18 months for reimbursement in major surgeries like impacted wisdom tooth removal, root canal, crown replacement etc.

More paper work & hassles: There are more forms to be filled & there maybe long waiting periods for treatment.

Types of Private Dental insurance

1) Direct reimbursement: – In most private dental insurance, this method is opted for. Here, there is flexibility of choice of dentists & also coverage. All non cosmetic procedures will be covered. A small percentage of the bill will be reimbursed through the insurance. Premium is high.

2) Deductibles: - The bill is presented to the insurance company. They will deduct the deductible & reimburse the rest to you. In this method you should opt for low premium.

3) Co-insurance:- A small percentage you are paying & the rest is paid by the insurance company. Higher the coinsurance, lower the premium.

Benefits of Private Dental Insurance

Less preferred providers: – There is no submission of predefined panel of dentists. You can undergo treatment under the dentist of your choice.

Close rapport between you & the Dentist. As the dentist is of your choice & you can make sure that there are no loopholes in the criteria of the insurance provider.

You can go for cheap treatment by opting low premium or other wise high premium for frequent visits.
